When you go to the doctor and return with a kitchen! Sam spotted Milestone Kitchens in Garden & Home magazine, while waiting for a doctor's appointment. Thanks for getting in touch, we look forward to creating your dream kitchen.
Another beautiful kitchen, designed by a client and converted into reality by Milestone Kitchens.
Carol designed her dream kitchen using our Kitchen Planner and it has been such a joy to bring this kitchen to life! Carol has chosen a customised Coffee Dresser with space for a microwave, two Butler Sink Units, a spacious Drawer unit, Utensil Wall Unit, Broom Cupboard and customised Deluxe Island.
Her units have been designed in Swedish Style, with lovely silver cup handles. She chose mahogany-coloured solid pine tops, which contrasts the white units beautifully.
Here is an image of Carol's kitchen layout, as well as pics of her Deluxe Island.

Chic contrasts and monochrome tones...we are loving how this kitchen is looking!
Our client Eleanor, from Hillcrest in KZN, ordered her units in the Swedish Style range without tops, and had granite fitted on site. Eleanor requested fitted units, which is always a possibility when ordering from us (it just requires a little more work from the client). This photo shows the Cutlery Server and Sink Unit joined with a dead-end panel, and on the wall is a Microwave Unit with cupboards.
Eleanor is not yet finished with her kitchen and promises to send more pics. We can't wait to see!
Small kitchen? No problem. We can tailor-make our units to maximise your space...
This new corner unit, in African Allure style, was created for a client in Pietermaritzburg and compactly fits in drawers, a bin, space for trays, with room for a dishwasher too! The sink will fit neatly above the double doors, and we've incorporated space for bar stools on the edge of the unit. We just love it!
Fresh apple green and full of fun! We're loving this custom-made island a client asked us to create, which includes space for her precious pooches. This design inspired our Nina Island.

KZN-based friends, we hope you picked up a copy of the @SundayTribune over the weekend?
It was such a lovely surprise to see Milestone Kitchens featured! Take a peek below:

These are a few pictures of a Milestone Swedish Style Kitchen we sent to Zambia. Our client, Rita opted to have her units ordered without tops. She had the granite tops put on when the kitchen was in. I am proud what we can achieve with clients across the miles.
"Our kitchen is a tiny galley kitchen. As we live on a farm, I went for units on legs for ease of cleaning and also as our cement floors are not level - chose Swedish Style with white painted units and black granite counter tops. We just love our kitchen and it more than met our expectations with quality fittings and workmanship.
I have no hesitation in recommending Milestone Kitchens. Sylvia is very talented with design and layout and Lulu is beyond helpful, we received outstanding service and the kitchen was delivered in perfect condition and on time.
Unfortunately photography is not my forte but hope attached pics will give you some idea.
Thank you Dea for taking the trouble to notice and to write to us about it. We try.
If you don't mind maybe sending me the price list then I can work on a few

All in a day’s work at the Milestone Factory office. This is a transcript of an actual conversation that we had with a client. It is the kind of conversation we have all the time so I thought I would share it with you because you probably have similar questions.

great stuff. What kind of wood do you use?
80% of our units are made out of solid pine. We use Supawood in structural places where warping could be a problem, such as the door frames. We also used Supawood for the shelves and the inside of the drawers. In the case of the French Flair range the entire door is made of Supawood. The backs of the units are made of Masonite except where they are visible in which case they are made of either Pine (African Allure and English Elegance) or Supawood (French Flair). The Swedish Style is made up of a combination of pine and Supawood on the doors and Supawood for the shelves and inside of the drawers. WE NEVER USE CHIPBOARD.
ok good. I need to sell this to my husband and I know he absolutely does not like chipboard

You could sell it to him by taking him to actually see our units. Perhaps getting to touch and feel them could persuade him. Cleverly designed Corner Unit for a small kitchen with space on the left for a washing machine. The corner sink fits into the Corner Unit. Swedish Style. On legs. Ice White.
Adding to our (already spectacular) range of free standing units, Milestone Kitchens has been working on a new, more specialised kitchen cupboard. The House Keeping Cupboard. The House Keeping Cupboard can be customised to fit your accessories and is the perfect way to hide all cleaning appliances, laundry items and clutter to keep the kitchen looking modern and tidy. Contact Us for more information on how to order one.
Our KIAC in Dulux Night Jewel 3 with a Blonde top looks rather stunning. This one is going to Pretoria.
Cool letter from client.

For your information Biddulphs were very good. Pleasant and helpful

Fancy a peak into my own Milestone Kitchen? Check out Home Magazine’s July edition to see the 'latest' version of my own kitchen. My kitchen changes regularly because I like to test new products in my own home before I put them on the market. Obviously this is only possible because the units are moveable. Hence the flexibility that they afford you. 👌
One of our carpenters, Mduduzi, working on a set of Swedish Style wardrobes destined for Johannesburg.
Should you need a sketch with dimensions of the units you ordered so that the builder can ensure the plumbing in the wall is at the right place and height - just ask my trusty PA. She will supply as below. Thank you Lulu for always doing such stunning digital sketches for our clients.
I love it when you go to the dentist and end up buying a kitchen. 😂
I love this small and simple free-standing kitchen that is part of a very welcoming living area. I would love to cook in this space on a cold winter's night. I particularly like the way the steps have been extended into book shelves. If you are redecorating a small holiday cottage you could achieve a similar and probably even better look with Milestone Kitchen units.
Nice tennis balls Nadal. We would like to see how you handle them in a Milestone Kitchen. 😂
Our factory manager, Dennis & his wife Wendy had a blast at the Comrades Marathon this past Sunday.
Set up at the Biddulphs stand for the Comrades Marathon has begun. Looking good. Well done Deshen and team.
Cleverly designed Swedish Style Corner Unit in ice white for a small kitchen with space on the left for a washing machine. The Corner Unit accommodates a Franke corner sink perfectly.
Adding to our (already spectacular) range of free standing units Milestone Kitchens has been working on a new, more specialised kitchen cupboard. It is called the House Keeping Cupboard (1400mm wide, 650mm deep and 2100mm high).
We have designed a cupboard that is perfect for homes without a laundry room by reinventing the broom cupboard and giving it a whole new make-over. The Housekeeping Cupboard is the perfect way to hide all cleaning appliances, laundry items and clutter to keep the kitchen looking modern and tidy.
On the outside this cupboard looks like an ordinary grocery cupboard but inside the House Keeping Cupboard there is room for a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, broom, ironing board, buckets and a variety of cleaning products. All in one convenient place and neatly tucked away out of sight. There are a variety of shelves for packing away ironed laundry and also a hanging rail for any items that need to be hung instead of folded. Shelves inside the door offer handy space to store essentials like scrubbing brushes, washing powder or detergents. The House Keeping Cupboard can be customised to fit the clients accessories.
The back of the cupboard behind the washing machine is open to allow the outlets for the washing machine pipes and electrical wires.
The cupboard photographed is in the African Allure range but it is available in any of our 4 ranges and finishes - the English Elegance, the French Flair and the Swedish Style - and you may have this unit in any colour your heart desires.
You can order this beautiful cupboard directly from us, there is no middleman, go to milestonekitchens.co.za.
Starting from R16 500 excluding appliances. We are happy to oblige with custom made units or adjusted measurements so that it can fit into your special place.
We love this Swedish Style Deluxe Coffee Dresser in Plascon Scandinavian Sky 8445-1. This stunner made it’s way down to Knysna recently. Well done Richard on the great choice in colour.
Well done to Valné in Namibia for choosing such a stunning colour for her Swedish Style Milestone Units. Dulux Night Jewels 2 - 00NN - 13/00.
We simply love this. It's classically stylish and elegant. The colours, the design, the quality of the workmanship is simply superb. The Island and Stool is pretty cool too!
This is the only acceptable form of stalking…and we dig it!
Two beautiful French Flair wardrobes ready to leave the factory.
Our latest promotion in the HOME/TUIS magazine features parts of my own kitchen. I decided to add a bit of jooj to my existing Milestone Double Butcher Block by painting it graphite back. What do you think of the result? Also note beautiful Nina lying ever so eloquently on the dog bed. It is like she has always belonged here.
Welcome Nina, the newest addition to the Milestone Kitchen factory family. If you know Milestone Kitchens, you know we love GSPs and better than that, we love rescuing GSPs.
I must just tell you, since we bought our property in Mozambique 7 years ago, I said to my husband that when the house is almost ready I want a Milestone kitchen. I always had my eye on your kitchens. Absolutely love it, can’t wait for mine!
Red never seems to date. Used with white and natural wood it is bright, cheerful and young. Perfect for a couple with a young family.

This is the full interview:
On purchasing your home (when?) you decided to renovate some areas including a kitchen space-
We purchased our house late 2011 and did basic work in the house (renovating/changing floors, repainting but no major changes as we wanted to live in the space before making drastic changes…)
What did you do and why?
With regards to the kitchen, it became quite quickly apparent that the kitchen was:
1. Too small and people piled up in the kitchen during our many entertainment weekends, as, although small, the kitchen was the heart of the house and people just loved being there literally to see “what’s cooking”
2. Being at the back of the house and fairly “remote” from our patio/entertainment area, I (the Cook) was being isolated from all the guests that couldn’t fit in the kitchen space and from the fun outside when busy preparing meals for my guests…
What was your inspiration and or wish list for your kitchen (did you want a specific style?):
Having immigrated from Lyon (the French Capital of Gastronomy) 14 years ago, I always wanted to have a very open kitchen that would have lots of light, be an “arm reach” from all my herbs and veggies and with a timeless look that would say French cooking is for everybody to prepare and share together with us…
The kitchen project was actually the base for the creation a couple of month later of our now well stocked veggie “patch” right next to the terrace…
How did you find/why did you choose Milestone Kitchens?
I specifically searched for French style/solid wood kitchens via the internet and on magazines.
I actually saw the first striking picture of what type of kitchen units I wanted to have in a Garden and Home Mag in an advert for Milestone Kitchens and, after further research to compare and settle on the right product for us, chose Milestone kitchen as they offered by far the best quality/price.
Did you work with them on the design of your kitchen?
Not really, I took my measurements and drew the plans inclusive of passages and windows and existing appliances, and then browsed the very complete units specs to first chose the basic units I absolutely wanted to see in my kitchen (a big pantry, corner units and 90 cm pot drawers, sink unit, server as a base for my central console/island). I placed these on my drawing and then looked at the space left and what units would be fitting and useful to incorporate.
For the surfaces, I knew that I wanted something cost effective and durable for the counters (Rustenburg granite was perfect for the look) but something really special for the central island that would bring that African spirit into my French passion and what better than a reminder of the Nguni cows so characteristic of this part of the World I chose to call home 14 years ago…
I went to quite a few suppliers and found the best selection and service from The Stone Library in North Riding as they managed to not only give me the best price but complete the full job in 10 working days from my first visit to meet my birthday deadline date in December!
As I wanted a kitchen full of light and open onto our terrace I chose to install Constantina doors and Cape style windows (supplier was Gauteng Mouldings in Kya sands)
Did you enlist the help of a builder or architect? If so, who?
I used our builder of many years to place the windows and do the plastering/paint and the tiling only and my husband installed the full kitchen himself…
Did you run into any difficulties?
Not really but I am a very hands-on owner and Project manager! But on installation we realized that we would need another corner unit which Milestone Kitchen managed to make available to us within a couple of weeks and my husband made a full day trip to collect directly from them to meet my deadline to finish the project prior to my birthday!
How long did it take?
We started with the building work late September and finished the full installation on December 10th.
What did you want to achieve from the renovation? i.e. do you entertain a lot?
We DO entertain a lot J and this project has definitely changed our way of doing it. Also this open and welcoming space has now become the place where everybody want to be, from my daughter helping with harvesting some veggies in the garden and the cooking with me in the evening or doing arts and crafts, to my husband and I when we have extra work to do in the evening on our laptops!
Did you have a strict budget?
Although not absolutely strict, our budget was indeed limited and the selection of suppliers/products balancing carefully durability of the products with the price tag. We ended up spending about 20% above budget. Total cost of the project was +/- 160k inclusive of labour and all materials (kitchen units, fittings, granite tops, windows, constantina doors, tiles, paint, etc)
Have you done something like this before?
No but it was so inspiring and exciting that I am actually considering doing this as a full time job one day in future to help people achieve their dreams without breaking the bank… I just LOVED IT!

Stunning Island. Designed by Quentin Campbell from Roodepoort made by Milestone Kitchens.
We really love the clean, simple lines and colours of this Swedish Style Stove Unit with fitted hob and under counter oven. This Stove Unit also features our Spice/Oil Drawer combo which can be included in any unit and accessed from the left or right.

Stunning job, Richard from Knysna. African Allure with highlights of Sky Blue. Beautiful in his beach home. Relaxing. Peaceful. Inviting. Very handy Richard is with good taste and clever with his use of colour. We LOVE it.

We don't often get asked to have the African Allure range in white. For our clients considering it, this is the result. It is a very different but beautiful finish.

"Sylvia, I'm not ashamed to say I was actually brought to tears when I saw your email. I can tell you have your customers' best interest at heart. Thank you so, so much. Its been a year of trying to get things together to fix up our house and you are the first supplier that has done something like this, what a breath of fresh air. Now we can finally have the kitchen we want!
I will wait for the transport quote and we can then start the ball rolling.
Thank you again for your generosity!

Jo, Cape Town"
Yayyyy. It is so lovely to be able to make somebody happy. All we did was give her a discount.
So excited to be able to announce that we have now launched Live Chat on our website and you can chat to us on line during working hours. Please would someone chat to us, we have been waiting all morning...
Ahhhhh man! We love this email from Johanette, especially the last sentence. Johanette came to see us at Decorex, Jo'burg and we discussed her kitchen. She also scored a factory second Pastry Table.
I enjoyed talking to you and I felt you really understood what I wanted.
Thank you so much for the Pastry Table. I will definitely take it just as it is. I love fixing things up and preparing food on it will often remind me of your kindness. :)
Short and sweet and to the point. We love it when our clients make the effort to give us lovely compliments.
"Hi Silvia thanks for your prompt response , I prefer doing bussiness with such professional people! 😊
Have a blessed day

This is one of our most popular colours. It is chosen by our clients time and time again. It is Dulux Dusted Moss 1.

Yesterday was PA Day which I didn’t actually know about because my PA didn’t tell me it was. I thought PAs were supposed to remind their bosses about important days. Plus, she posts stuff on social media about me, probably done during working hours, but thats ok because it says some quite nice things. Despite the fact she has a migraine and I tell her to take it easy, she does her work. My point is, I don’t think that I actually AM The Boss as you can see by the letter below that she wrote to me a few days ago.
I understand you would like to keep your finger on the pulse in your absence, but as your PA, emails from you panicking half way across the world makes my job difficult. I have things under control. It will be ok. You can leave these things to me, put your iPad down and focus on what YOU have to do. I promise…PROMISE… I will make contact with you if a crisis (unlikely) arises and I need to draw from your wisdom.
The outstanding But 10 is for Monica. I have one But 10 Sink in stock for Patricia that we can use. It will be ok.
A useful tip about Centre Islands.
When it comes to kitchen islands, we generally think of additional storage, preparation and serving space in the kitchen. But the fact of the matter is that kitchen islands can waste a lot space. Choosing the wrong island or placing it in the wrong spot can be a mistake. Islands that obstruct the flow of traffic to and from the sink, fridge, stove and other workstations will create bottlenecks. An island should have enough room for people to move and work around it. Experts say that unless the kitchen is at least 2400mm deep and more than 3600mm long, one shouldn’t even consider an island. We have a range of islands available depending on the size of your kitchen and if we don’t have the size you need we can custom make one for you. The magnificent Swedish Style island in Mexican red below is 3000mm x 1400mm.
Oh how we love this colour chosen by Joy Denton in Sandton for her SS units. (Plascon Distant Storm G7/E1/3). The rest of the unit will have a drop in sink in Caesarstone.
Here is a useful tip on sealing your Milestone Kitchen tops.
The server is perfect. Everyone that sees it makes a comment. I have sealed it with Timbercare as I said, and this I will do this once a year. It is actually a exterior sealer for outside furniture and wooden decks, and I have used it on my siligna patio furniture with great results.
I am so chuffed with this piece of furniture!

This is a kitchen in Mispah, near Greytown. We love how cleverly our client has used the granite tops from her old kitchen to create a new island. The base is 3 separate Milestone Units and the top is the granite of her the breakfast nook of the old kitchen. We also love the blackboard door into the pantry. Well done Helen.
Some of our clients just get it and we love that. For more uplifting and intelligent emails worth looking at if you are interested in buying a Milestone Kitchen see our Pinterest board
A beautifully sealed Dark Stained Pine Top on a Swedish Style Milestone Unit.
Debbie McCusker said, "We sealed our tops with Woodoc 25 matt clear sealer, 3 coats with a very fine steel wool rub down in between coats 1 and 2! We followed the instructions exactly and used a thin brush, a good quality, to minimise hair loss which is difficult to correct, on the sides and a bigger brush for the tops.
The tin says don't store or clean the brushes in turpentine but you have to or they just get hard and useless!
We left the tops to dry and harden for 2 days before putting anything on top of them. I lined my shelves with a sort of naffy black "rubber matting" which is breathable as it has holes in it, but this is proving to be fantastic as it prevents bumps and scratches and is kinder to the glassware and crockery."
We'd like to thank our clients who take the time to write us such lovely letter. It makes us happy.
"Hi Silvia and Lulu
I know bog standard and a touch boring compared to red and blue units. But these Milestone Units fit in perfectly with Maude Sumner and BeeZy Bailey and Jean Beeton and Bettie Celliers Barnard and Walter Battis and Marieka Prinsloo. I always wanted an 'art gallery kitchen'... and these units are as good inside as on the outside... Thank you Silvia - it has been such a pleasure to work with you. I know I am going to be doing more business with you.
Deborah McCusker, Pretoria"
We value the compliments that clients send our way but we also value helpful suggestions on how to improve. Thank you to those of you who take the trouble to point out our faults. It give us an opportunity to make Milestone Kitchen Units even better than they already are. We value the constructive criticism from Glendon Menteath in his letter to us (below) and we are working on making improvements in these areas.
"Hi Milestone Team
Barbara and I have relocated to the Cape and have settled most of our possessions. I have sent you a snap of the kitchen with all the cupboards moved in. The Butchers Block is a must for any family - so versatile!
We have added some shelves to the Microwave Wall Unit as we found that one can mainly store glasses and cups due to the narrowness of the shelves and there was a waste of good storage space (space is at a premium).
One criticism is that many of the hinges on the doors, which take 4 screws, only had two screws. We would have expected the quality assurance team to identify this prior to shipping.
We are very satisfied and proud of the cupboards we have chosen and thank you for your service

Everybody is loving our new Pastry Table in Ash with Stainless Steel Top. The picture below shows it is a favourite of Mary Jane Harris, editor of SA Garden and Home (March 2016). The table has also appeared simultaneously in the March issue of HOME/TUIS.
We really appreciate feedback like this. It makes all the attention to detail we put into our units and client service worth it.
"Hi Silvia and Lulu,
The old AA kitchen is in my mother's house. She's decided to plaster the open bricks and paint the house all different kinds of oranges (the Dulux Argentina range). It's a very daring move, but I think we're going to be surprised when it's all done. She has a very clear image in her head, and that's why she ordered the hood and the chateau dresser in the orange colour. So her kitchen will be grey and orange. I'll send pictures when the whole project is done.
Christine is already searching your website, making a wishlist of all the units that she'd like to have in the future - the benches and chairs have caught her eye. So I think that she will definitely order from you guys again.
As for me, I'm waiting for my house to be completed, and then I have a load of cement and concrete work planned in the scullery and kitchen to compliment the swedish style units; ultimately I want to reach an industrial-scandinavian style in my home. So depending on how that goes (and a lot of DIY!!) and how much space is left in my kitchen, I'm hoping to also order more units from you.
So we'll be in contact as I send pictures of our kitchens.
Again, thank you, we're all big fans and so very fortunate to have your units in our kitchens.
Liza Henning, Ghanzi, Botswana"
At Milestone Kitchens, carpenters like to wear the same colour as the furniture they make! Or maybe it's because this blue is particularly beautiful?
We love this shelf unit we made for a client’s stationary shop. It is Swedish Style with no doors. There are so many options for displaying stationary.
African Allure Coffee Dresser with French Flair Twirl in 'Dulux Daring Argentina'. What do you think? Please go to our Facebook page and give us your opinion. We love to know what our followers think.
Look out for our Double Page Spread in the Feb issue of HOME/TUIS. It is causing quite a stir on the home front. We have had many requests for our unique stainless steel tops and innovative “grater lights”. We have also had many questions on how to use our Kitchen Planner. Please Contact Us should you need any information on the above. We look forward to hearing for you.
HOME/TUIS, February 2016
We love this custom made African Allure Coffee Dresser that we made for a client in Ermelo. Joshua Meyer designed it himself and with a little help from us... this is the result.
We have news from Botswana! It is always good to hear from past clients, particularity if they live in Botswana. Liza lives in Ghanzi, Botswana, a very dry and hot part of the world. She ordered her Milestone Kitchen a few years ago. If you are from Botswana and would like to order a Milestone Kitchen, read below.
The Island and all the other pieces are really out-performing themselves.... we sealed all the tops with a permeable sealant and we oil them every 2nd or 3rd week, and there are no cracks at all. The haven't dried up, gone askew or curled up. None of that. They look brand new like the day they arrived here. I'll take some pictures and send them to you next week. We are VERY happy with the Kitchen.
I've been living with my parents in the farm house, so we've been sharing the kitchen. But now I'm getting married and will be moving into a new house which my fiance and I are building. We should be moving in around March. Which is why I want to order a new kitchen for my new home! Very excited.
My sister-in-law has contacted you already for her kitchen, because they too will be moving into a newly built house here on the farm in the new year. She asked me to help, so I'm going to place both our orders together, then we can share transport costs etc.
So we'll be having 3 families in 3 farm houses with 3 unique Milestone Kitchens. Sounds perfect.
Looking forward to working with you again, always a pleasant experience.
This is our TMK Factory kitchen, in the latest issue of HOME/TUIS. The one we work in to provide our restaurant patrons with their delicious meals. Much fun and laughter has been had in this kitchen. Some tense moment too though. And it doesn’t always look so clean and tidy. But it’s always a pleasure to work in.
Great news is that we have decided to extend our popular 7 Piece Starter Set Special to all our ranges until the end of January.
