Silvia's snippets and updates of our latest, new and recent kitchens, helpful advice and general stuff
At the beginning, Milestone Kitchens was a three-man team, consisting of Dennis, Sizwe (who are both still with us) and Sipho, functioning in the garage of Silvia Miles’s home. Over seventeen years later, the garage has grown into a 650 square meter factory and the three-man team has expanded to employ and train up to 30 people from our local community. We are able to compete with the best kitchen companies in the country. We have all worked hard to establish a successful business and we are very proud of our product.
The Carpenters and Painters.
Quote: “Cabanga kabili, usike kanye“ - think twice cut once.
We believe that local is lekker, and better. So, we only employ and train people from our local communities. Our carpenters and painters take great pride in making quality kitchens for the families that we work with.
The vast majority of our carpenters and painters have been with Milestone Factory for 15+ years (I think you could say they’re happy here). Most started of our staff began at MK unskilled and have learnt their skills on the job over the years and are now invaluable in an economy where skilled labour is scarce.
You've already been introduced to Lulu De Beer, Bedette Olivier and Phumla Majola, but in case you've forgotten...
Lulu joined MK in December 2012. She is an internationally certified, City and Guild accredited front office/hotel manageress. She specialised in culinary arts during her course and graduated from Legends Hospitality School of Fine Cuisine with a distinction (we appreciate good food at MK). So you know she has a good understanding of how things are supposed to work in the kitchen. Lulu has 2 sons, and a menagerie of dogs, cats, geese (I'm probably missing a few). Lulu is a motivator, psychologist, lawyer, doctor, chef, dog whisperer, photographer, bodyguard and a highly valued human being.
Official Titles: Personal Assistant to Silvia Miles and Chief Designer.
Unofficial Title: Right hand woman.
Quote: “ Of all the things you can choose to be today, choose to be kind."
Bedette Olivier is the newest addition to the MK family, she came from an administration position at an airline company, to MK where she takes care of all of the general admin, and is an important link between the office and the carpenters on the factory floor. She is an adept logistical co-ordinator and not someone you want to get into an argument with! She is resilient, hard working and ALWAYS goes the extra mile.
Official Title: Factory Administrator
Quote: "Rather an hour early than 1 minute late”.
She is reliable, honest and full of fun, she always has a smile on her face. Phumla has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology. She runs the Milestone Kitchens FOS (Factory Outlet Shop) at 44 Stanley. She does everything: from decorating, to organising deliveries, to cleaning, to helping prospective clients with important dream-kitchen-making decisions.
Official title: Factory Outlet Shop Manageress
Quote: "Be true to yourself”
Official Title: Factory Manager
Quote: “Quality is pride in workmanship”
Dennis Mkhize has been the Milestone Factory Manager for 20 years, since the working-out-of-Silvia’s-garage days. He has a vast knowledge of carpentry. After finishing matric he won an award to be trained as a carpenter at PMB Gateway Prison project - we snapped him up soon afterwards and he has been with us ever since. He is the only man in our management team (the most impressive part of his resume?). He is calm and methodical and loyal and we couldn’t do without him.
Official Title: Media Manager
Unofficial Title: The Boss’s daughter.
Quote: "Gorify the hour".
Sabrina is very energetic; her positive and adventurous spirit seeps into everything she does. She is currently working for MK part time (PART time - Mom, did you see this?). She manages the social media and marketing related tasks, from somewhere - nobody is ever really sure where. Sabrina has a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering and understands all things entrepreneurial. Sometimes she consults for the business in an industrial engineering capacity. Sabrina is passionate about the company and will be joining the team in a more permanent role in the next few years.
Official Title: Videographer
Unofficial Title: The Boss’ taller daughter.
Quote: "Computers are useless. They can only give you answers."
Tess is a passionate, talented, very creative, proudly South African, recently graduated Video Journalist from Rhodes University. And no, we are not biased. Her job is to capture the essence of MK in videos and to help our clients better visualise our concept. This is a recent venture for us, but we have (we hope), some exciting things lined up so watch this space!
This week on Social Media we will be introducing you to some of the core members of the Milestone Team. First up is the big boss: Silvia Miles.
Official titles: CEO, Founder.
Unofficial Title: Creative Genius.
Quote: “In the dark you will never find the light switch if you don’t move.”
Silvia completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in painting and geography cum laude, with honours in painting, and also her PGCE. We are still not sure what this has to do with freestanding kitchen units, but we do know she is clever. After a couple years of teaching her way around the world, she went on to start her own business, MK. Silvia has a gift for making spaces beautiful, she is also a mother and a passionate, excellent cook (we know we’ve tasted her stress-cooking). This combination has rather effectively translated into an ability to design and manufacture furniture to create practical and beautiful kitchens and spaces, and evolved Milestone Kitchens into what it is today.
We love the way Debbie Coulson has combined Swedish Style units with blonde solid Ash tops in a space with lots of natural light to create this - her second milestone kitchen. And she said she can’t wait for her third! Think she likes us?
Sometimes Milestone Kitchens has clients from all over the globe, it really blows our hair back. We are proud to have hand-crafted this kitchen for an international client from Texas, USA.
Di Taylor, Merrivale, KZN: " Yes please! I love that such an awesome company is around the corner from us on the good old Wartburg rd!! I was a Greytown girl..."
We get warm fuzzy feelings in our tummys when clients send us photos of their kitchens ❤️
We are very excited to work with our Home Magazine/Tuis TydskrifHero Item competition winner Annelie!
You know you’re trendy when you’re featured in the Home Magazine/Tuis Tydskrif!
You know how they say, never trust a skinny chef? You should also never trust solid wood kitchen carpenters who don’t cook in their own kitchens. This is the Milestone Factory staff kitchen, made by the Milestone Kitchen carpenters, what do you think? Let us know on facebook or instagram with the buttons in the top right corner!
The Milestone Kitchens Factory Outlet Shop is OPEN for 2019, as of 11 minutes ago. It’s been almost a year since we first served you guys delicious chocolates from Chocoloza and scrumptious cheesecake and brownies from Salvation Cafe (ja that was a good time and no sorry we’re not doing it again right now), but, we’ve learnt SO much since that day and we’re excited to bring you even bigger and better things in the coming year!
We had a wonderful holiday under the African sun, and we hope you did too, (but we've had enough of our relatives now), and we're looking forward to a new year at Milestone Kitchens!
The Milestone Kitchens FOS at 44 Stanley is opening on Monday - we’d love to see you. This is a great opportunity to get those early bird orders in, as production is nearly full for Feb 2019.
It's not too late to get yourself (or your family) a last minute christmas treat from 44 Stanley Avenue!
Today is closing day! The Milestone Team wishes you a happy and safe festive season 🌲 🌲 🌲
P.S. This also means last day to get in orders for your free-standing, award-winning, designer, stress-free (!) kitchen units, for delivery in February!
But don’t worry, the Milestone Kitchens FOS and other worthwhile shops at 44 Stanley are still open if you’d like to do some Christmas shopping.
This is sparkly, beautiful Phum. She is full of fun and always has a smile on her face (and no sorry guys, this is not a dating app). Phumla runs the Milestone Kitchens FOS (Factory Outlet Shop) at 44 Stanley. She does everything: from decorating, to organising deliveries, to cleaning, to helping prospective clients with important dream-kitchen-making decisions. And she is so lovely to be around - it’s worth visiting our FOS just to to have a conversation with her!
Reliable, hard-working and eternally honest - we are so grateful we have you on our team Phum!
This is a picture of a hand-made, custom-made African Allure corner unit in white, taken on the factory floor just before it was wrapped up and sent off to a valued client. Everything we make is customizable and can be sized to fit perfectly into your kitchen and lifestyle!
We love orders like this! It’s awesome getting to make someone’s vision a reality.
This is a coffee dresser designed by a Mrs Venter, she drew this simple diagram for us and the Milestone carpenters worked their magic.
What fabulous ideas are floating around in your head? Is there anything you want but can’t find? Draw us a picture and we can make it happen.
Surprisingly, the best part about taking this photo was not sitting on the Milestone Kitchens trestle table but getting to sit next to Brian the mini-GSP 😍❤️
Our Kitchen In A Cupboard is perfect for guest houses, guest rooms, students housing, granny flats, hotels or any small space needing a kitchen. The KIAC has a sink, stove, microwave and mini fridge AND it all fits into this compact, stylish, cupboard. We can make this product in all shape and sizes and order your appliances, it’s fully customizable. Wheels, legs or skirting, stone tops, ash tops, pine tops - whatever fits your budget, we can do it for you! Have you ever seen an easier kitchen set up?
If you’ve been watching our stories lately you’ll know we have been experimenting with different shapes and colours. This grocery cupboard/wardrobe has been finished with pink chalk paint and a rose wallpaper. You can find it and others at the Factory Outlet Shop in Johannesburg.
Milestone Kitchens Factory Outlet shop opened in February 2018. Everything in this photo has been sold since it was taken on opening day - visit us at 44 Stanley Avenue, MilPark, Johannesburg and have a look at what else we have to offer before that sells out too!
Whether it’s to gain some inspiration and get those creative juices flowing, chat about ‘what’s new’ to our awesome sales reps, or indulge in a delicious coffee from Salvation Cafe, we’d love to see you!
Milestone Kitchens units are very versatile - in fact, contrary to popular belief we make furniture that can be used all over the house. This single vanity can be seen from the seat of a very nice toilet in a very nice bathroom in a very nice flat in KZN, South Africa. The second picture depicts the kitchen in said very nice flat, just in case you got so excited about this very nice vanity that you forgot we also make very nice kitchen units.
We had a wonderful and inspiring lunch with Home Magazine and SARIE Tydskrif yesterday The Oyster Box #printisnotdead.
These diverse magazines are full of ideas, inspiration and sometimes a Milestone Kitchens Unit or 3. If you haven’t had the privilege of owning one yet - better late than never!
“Kitchen islands serve a number of purposes. In addition to being a visual anchor in the space, they also help increase the room’s functionality and efficiency.”
Milestone Kitchens offer a number of island options and can customize them to meet your needs!
Want a wine rack? We’ll make you a wine rack! Want it on casters? We’ll put it on casters. Want a purple and yellow island with green legs? We’ll make you a purple and yellow island with green legs.
Overlooking Durban beachfront is this classic yet contemporary Milestone Kitchen, we love it! And so does the SA Garden and Home.
This is Bedette, AKA Bee 🐝 aka Meep (don’t ask me why). We would like to officially welcome her to the Milestone Kitchens team where she is attempting to fill the space left by Superwoman On Maternity Leave, Lulu de Beer. These shoes were acquired after 7 years of growing and learning while MK has grown from a small company into what it is today, and they are some big shoes to have to step into! Despite this, Bee is a resilient, hard worker and is learning quickly, she always goes the extra mile! I don’t think she knows my real name, or if she does she has forgotten it because she always, without fail, calls me Boss (I am not complaining as this is rather empowering and reminds me that I am an independent woman). When Lulu gets back Bee will stay on the team to help keep up with the growing administration demands of Milestone Kitchens.
Bee we are excited to have you with us and we look forward to a happy and successful future with you on the team!
Congratulations to Lulu and her family on the birth of their 4.2kg bundle of joy. Welcome to the world Dakota Potgieter!
This beautiful kitchen now belongs to Johanette Fellows from Pretoria. Johanette made her own concrete tops for her kitchen and they are stunning! In fact, she has started her own concrete top business. Concrete tops go so well with the Milestone Ranges, we are very impressed with how clever she has been combining them with her Swedish Style kitchen.
Should you wish to get a concrete top, you are welcome to contact Johanette on (082) 319 2391 for more information about them. You can also have a look at her website: http://www.imbecraft.com/
There are a number of different options for you and your kitchen regarding tops, hardwood, softwood, steel, Caesar stone, granite. Have a look at our new MK tops page.
"Thanks for meeting me. It was one of my dreams to meet you and now it seems that I will be getting one of your super kitchens."
Sandra Spangler made an appointment to see me at our Joburg Showroom last week. We sat and chatted and planned the Milestone kitchen she has been wanting for years, together.
I would love to meet with you and help you plan your dream kitchen! All you need to do is make an appointment.
I don’t know if the world knows, but there’s a special woman who works behind the scenes at Milestone Kitchens. Her name is Lulu aka my Right Hand aka Superwoman aka Expecting Mom.
Go over a 1000 emails per day, take and make calls, WhatsApp and SMS at speed, chase suppliers, keep up with the Live Chat, expertly fill in multiple forms, intuitively read between the lines, and maintain a sense of humour, all at the same time! Lulu is able to prepare any sort of letter, be it; employment contracts, dismissals and referrals, or a cake in the shape of an A.
When she is not in communication zone, she manages my finances, finds and interviews prospective employees, takes pictures, makes videos and slide shows, prints, faxes, writes up interviews, cancels accounts, opens accounts, prepares wages, and still finds the time to go to the toilet.
Not only does Lulu always know what the weather is doing - she knows exactly how I feel most of the time (I don’t even know how I feel half of the time?). In the (often occurring) necessity, she can: cure migraines, drive a truck, get to town and back in under an hour, remember the passwords for 25 different accounts, type in legal jargon, negotiate with labour units and the CCMA, arrange bank loans, fix anything, and make the best hot toddies. If needed, she will make supper, lunch, and, very importantly, coffee. She can, in fact, cater for a function for 30 people at a few hours notice. Probably while texting clients. By the way, no, she is not looking for a new job.
She is a motivator, psychologist, lawyer, doctor, chef, photographer, body guard, dog whisperer and a highly valued human being. I think the only thing she can’t do is work and have a baby at the same time! We are going to miss you over the next few months here at Milestone Kitchens Lulu, your beautiful boy is going to grow up in the most capable of hands and I can’t wait to meet him! ❤.
Make sure you enter our Milestone Kitchen competition in the August edition of HOME/TUIS. One lucky person gets to win R50 000 toward the cost of a new kitchen.
The pictures below give you an idea of what can be achieved with free-standing units. They are made from a combination of solid wood and supawood and not stuck to the walls so you are at liberty to move them, paint them, change only one top or all the tops, use them somewhere else or even remodel them. The choice is endless. You will never regret your decision to go this route.
We have a 7 Piece Starter Set Special in French Flair painted in Fresh Linen, available at our Factory Outlet Shop. "With its stylish interior, this alluring space offers customers the opportunity to experience the brand's solid-wood, modular kitchen units in a lifestyle setting. We're featured on Franke Group's #MakeItWonderful blog today!
An interview with owner and founder of Milestone Kitchen, Silvia Miles, the article is about kitchen design, trends in the kitchen and our Factory Outlet Shop at 44 Stanley.

Thank you for including us on your blog, Franke!
If you're looking to create the ideal family kitchen, SA Home Owner's Kitchen Confidential feature in this month's issue has all the answers you need!
Milestone Kitchens is featured in the article and our resident kitchen pro, Silvia Miles, was interviewed...
"Free-standing kitchen units, rather than fixed wall-to-floor units are ideal for a family-friendly home, making cleaning that much easier. A broom and vacuum cleaner fits under the units with ease, and if you've chosen units on castors, then you can simply move the units aside to clean the floor," says Silvia.
Not many clients know that we do doors only. Here is an example of a client with a difficult kitchen space. It would have been almost impossible to put free-standing units in Esme Klopper’s kitchen as it has a weird, hexagonal layout, but she desperately wanted a Milestone Kitchen. So we made her doors. This is the result.
This is Esme's feedback:
👍💗💗💗Thank you so much, it's delivered! Beautiful. 👍💗💗💗 I am so pleased, it's beautiful!👍😄😄😄😄💗💗💗💗

"I could not believe my eyes when I saw that you opened an outlet shop in Gauteng...I am so excited to visit there with my hubby, as I am in need of a brand new kitchen after 20 years of marriage. I am the type of person who loves to touch and see something before I can actually visualise it in my home...now I get that opportunity and hopefully my starter kitchen unit set will become a reality. Thanks Silvia! See you soon."
Thank you for this lovely message, Connely! We look forward to seeing you at our Factory Outlet Shop very soon.

Thank you Tracy Kelly of Nom de Plume Studio for assisting us to bring our vision for the space to life.
We recently assisted Cheryl, from Gauteng, to bring her dream kitchen to life. Silvia loves how warm and inviting this kitchen is and how Cheryl cleverly used other pieces of furniture alongside her Milestone Kitchen units.
Thank you for this lovely feedback, Cheryl...
"Choosing a Milestone Kitchen was one of the best decisions have I ever made. My little kitchen was looking drab and lacklustre and I had wanted to refresh it without losing the cottage feel the entire house has. I chose pieces that could fit in neatly with some existing heirlooms and a more modern shelf. The island is amazing! I use it to display my beloved roses and baked goodies and there is so much space for storage. The ordering process was a dream. Lulu is ever helpful and when the kitchen units arrived my dream fell into place! We are building a new home and although I have to leave my little kitchen behind, I am ordering a new Milestone Kitchen that Lulu has helped me plan. So at least I will have a very similar kitchen in my new home. A Milestone Kitchen should be on everyone's bucket list. Simply stunning!"
We love this write-up on the new shops at 44 Stanley in Hello Joburg Magazine!
Here's what Hello Joburg had to say about Milestone Kitchens:
"These beautifully crafted, modular and free standing kitchen cupboards and units are the bomb for maximising space in small apartments. All your stuff in one place – got it. Moving to a bigger place? Easy – just add on with matching items to grow your home."

Jenna Schoeman was the the winner of the Home Magazine competition that we ran at the end of last year. We are very excited to be creating her dream kitchen for her - transforming a dilapidated space into something that reflects Jenna's style and needs for her kitchen, and does justice to the beauty of her blue stone farmhouse in KwaZulu-Natal.
Here is a peek of the exterior of her house and the kitchen plan that we have created for her. We are excited to start bringing this plan to life!

Another beautiful kitchen, designed by a client and converted into reality by Milestone Kitchens.
Carol designed her dream kitchen using our Kitchen Planner and it has been such a joy to bring this kitchen to life! Carol has chosen a customised Coffee Dresser with space for a microwave, two Butler Sink Units, a spacious Drawer unit, Utensil Wall Unit, Broom Cupboard and customised Deluxe Island.
Her units have been designed in Swedish Style, with lovely silver cup handles. She chose mahogany-coloured solid pine tops, which contrasts the white units beautifully.
Here is an image of Carol's kitchen layout, as well as pics of her Deluxe Island.

Chic contrasts and monochrome tones...we are loving how this kitchen is looking!
Our client Eleanor, from Hillcrest in KZN, ordered her units in the Swedish Style range without tops, and had granite fitted on site. Eleanor requested fitted units, which is always a possibility when ordering from us (it just requires a little more work from the client). This photo shows the Cutlery Server and Sink Unit joined with a dead-end panel, and on the wall is a Microwave Unit with cupboards.
Eleanor is not yet finished with her kitchen and promises to send more pics. We can't wait to see!
Small kitchen? No problem. We can tailor-make our units to maximise your space...
This new corner unit, in African Allure style, was created for a client in Pietermaritzburg and compactly fits in drawers, a bin, space for trays, with room for a dishwasher too! The sink will fit neatly above the double doors, and we've incorporated space for bar stools on the edge of the unit. We just love it!
Fresh apple green and full of fun! We're loving this custom-made island a client asked us to create, which includes space for her precious pooches. This design inspired our Nina Island.
Did you know that all of our pieces can be customised to suit your needs? Contact Us to find out more.

These are a few pictures of a Milestone Swedish Style Kitchen we sent to Zambia. Our client, Rita opted to have her units ordered without tops. She had the granite tops put on when the kitchen was in. I am proud what we can achieve with clients across the miles.
"Our kitchen is a tiny galley kitchen. As we live on a farm, I went for units on legs for ease of cleaning and also as our cement floors are not level - chose Swedish Style with white painted units and black granite counter tops. We just love our kitchen and it more than met our expectations with quality fittings and workmanship.
I have no hesitation in recommending Milestone Kitchens. Sylvia is very talented with design and layout and Lulu is beyond helpful, we received outstanding service and the kitchen was delivered in perfect condition and on time.
Unfortunately photography is not my forte but hope attached pics will give you some idea.
Thank you Dea for taking the trouble to notice and to write to us about it. We try.
If you don't mind maybe sending me the price list then I can work on a few

great stuff. What kind of wood do you use?
80% of our units are made out of solid pine. We use Supawood in structural places where warping could be a problem, such as the door frames. We also used Supawood for the shelves and the inside of the drawers. In the case of the French Flair range the entire door is made of Supawood. The backs of the units are made of Masonite except where they are visible in which case they are made of either Pine (African Allure and English Elegance) or Supawood (French Flair). The Swedish Style is made up of a combination of pine and Supawood on the doors and Supawood for the shelves and inside of the drawers. WE NEVER USE CHIPBOARD.
ok good. I need to sell this to my husband and I know he absolutely does not like chipboard

You could sell it to him by taking him to actually see our units. Perhaps getting to touch and feel them could persuade him. Cleverly designed Corner Unit for a small kitchen with space on the left for a washing machine. The corner sink fits into the Corner Unit. Swedish Style. On legs. Ice White.
Adding to our (already spectacular) range of free standing units, Milestone Kitchens has been working on a new, more specialised kitchen cupboard. The House Keeping Cupboard. The House Keeping Cupboard can be customised to fit your accessories and is the perfect way to hide all cleaning appliances, laundry items and clutter to keep the kitchen looking modern and tidy. Contact Us for more information on how to order one.
Our KIAC in Dulux Night Jewel 3 with a Blonde top looks rather stunning. This one is going to Pretoria.
Cool letter from client.
Kitchen is finally finished in the nick of time. Sending a couple of photos.
A few minor hiccups. But dealt with them.

Fancy a peak into my own Milestone Kitchen? Check out Home Magazine’s July edition to see the 'latest' version of my own kitchen. My kitchen changes regularly because I like to test new products in my own home before I put them on the market. Obviously this is only possible because the units are moveable. Hence the flexibility that they afford you. 👌
One of our carpenters, Mduduzi, working on a set of Swedish Style wardrobes destined for Johannesburg.
Should you need a sketch with dimensions of the units you ordered so that the builder can ensure the plumbing in the wall is at the right place and height - just ask my trusty PA. She will supply as below. Thank you Lulu for always doing such stunning digital sketches for our clients.
I love it when you go to the dentist and end up buying a kitchen. 😂
I love this small and simple free-standing kitchen that is part of a very welcoming living area. I would love to cook in this space on a cold winter's night. I particularly like the way the steps have been extended into book shelves. If you are redecorating a small holiday cottage you could achieve a similar and probably even better look with Milestone Kitchen units.
Nice tennis balls Nadal. We would like to see how you handle them in a Milestone Kitchen. 😂
Our factory manager, Dennis & his wife Wendy had a blast at the Comrades Marathon this past Sunday.
Set up at the Biddulphs stand for the Comrades Marathon has begun. Looking good. Well done Deshen and team.
Cleverly designed Swedish Style Corner Unit in ice white for a small kitchen with space on the left for a washing machine. The Corner Unit accommodates a Franke corner sink perfectly.
Adding to our (already spectacular) range of free standing units Milestone Kitchens has been working on a new, more specialised kitchen cupboard. It is called the House Keeping Cupboard (1400mm wide, 650mm deep and 2100mm high).
We have designed a cupboard that is perfect for homes without a laundry room by reinventing the broom cupboard and giving it a whole new make-over. The Housekeeping Cupboard is the perfect way to hide all cleaning appliances, laundry items and clutter to keep the kitchen looking modern and tidy.
On the outside this cupboard looks like an ordinary grocery cupboard but inside the House Keeping Cupboard there is room for a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, broom, ironing board, buckets and a variety of cleaning products. All in one convenient place and neatly tucked away out of sight. There are a variety of shelves for packing away ironed laundry and also a hanging rail for any items that need to be hung instead of folded. Shelves inside the door offer handy space to store essentials like scrubbing brushes, washing powder or detergents. The House Keeping Cupboard can be customised to fit the clients accessories.
The back of the cupboard behind the washing machine is open to allow the outlets for the washing machine pipes and electrical wires.
The cupboard photographed is in the African Allure range but it is available in any of our 4 ranges and finishes - the English Elegance, the French Flair and the Swedish Style - and you may have this unit in any colour your heart desires.
You can order this beautiful cupboard directly from us, there is no middleman, go to milestonekitchens.co.za.
Starting from R16 500 excluding appliances. We are happy to oblige with custom made units or adjusted measurements so that it can fit into your special place.
We love this Swedish Style Deluxe Coffee Dresser in Plascon Scandinavian Sky 8445-1. This stunner made it’s way down to Knysna recently. Well done Richard on the great choice in colour.
Well done to Valné in Namibia for choosing such a stunning colour for her Swedish Style Milestone Units. Dulux Night Jewels 2 - 00NN - 13/00.
We simply love this. It's classically stylish and elegant. The colours, the design, the quality of the workmanship is simply superb. The Island and Stool is pretty cool too!
This is the only acceptable form of stalking…and we dig it!
Two beautiful French Flair wardrobes ready to leave the factory.
Our latest promotion in the HOME/TUIS magazine features parts of my own kitchen. I decided to add a bit of jooj to my existing Milestone Double Butcher Block by painting it graphite back. What do you think of the result? Also note beautiful Nina lying ever so eloquently on the dog bed. It is like she has always belonged here.
Welcome Nina, the newest addition to the Milestone Kitchen factory family. If you know Milestone Kitchens, you know we love GSPs and better than that, we love rescuing GSPs.
I must just tell you, since we bought our property in Mozambique 7 years ago, I said to my husband that when the house is almost ready I want a Milestone kitchen. I always had my eye on your kitchens. Absolutely love it, can’t wait for mine!
Red never seems to date. Used with white and natural wood it is bright, cheerful and young. Perfect for a couple with a young family.

This is the full interview:
On purchasing your home (when?) you decided to renovate some areas including a kitchen space-
We purchased our house late 2011 and did basic work in the house (renovating/changing floors, repainting but no major changes as we wanted to live in the space before making drastic changes…)
What did you do and why?
With regards to the kitchen, it became quite quickly apparent that the kitchen was:
1. Too small and people piled up in the kitchen during our many entertainment weekends, as, although small, the kitchen was the heart of the house and people just loved being there literally to see “what’s cooking”
2. Being at the back of the house and fairly “remote” from our patio/entertainment area, I (the Cook) was being isolated from all the guests that couldn’t fit in the kitchen space and from the fun outside when busy preparing meals for my guests…
What was your inspiration and or wish list for your kitchen (did you want a specific style?):
Having immigrated from Lyon (the French Capital of Gastronomy) 14 years ago, I always wanted to have a very open kitchen that would have lots of light, be an “arm reach” from all my herbs and veggies and with a timeless look that would say French cooking is for everybody to prepare and share together with us…
The kitchen project was actually the base for the creation a couple of month later of our now well stocked veggie “patch” right next to the terrace…
How did you find/why did you choose Milestone Kitchens?
I specifically searched for French style/solid wood kitchens via the internet and on magazines.
I actually saw the first striking picture of what type of kitchen units I wanted to have in a Garden and Home Mag in an advert for Milestone Kitchens and, after further research to compare and settle on the right product for us, chose Milestone kitchen as they offered by far the best quality/price.
Did you work with them on the design of your kitchen?
Not really, I took my measurements and drew the plans inclusive of passages and windows and existing appliances, and then browsed the very complete units specs to first chose the basic units I absolutely wanted to see in my kitchen (a big pantry, corner units and 90 cm pot drawers, sink unit, server as a base for my central console/island). I placed these on my drawing and then looked at the space left and what units would be fitting and useful to incorporate.
For the surfaces, I knew that I wanted something cost effective and durable for the counters (Rustenburg granite was perfect for the look) but something really special for the central island that would bring that African spirit into my French passion and what better than a reminder of the Nguni cows so characteristic of this part of the World I chose to call home 14 years ago…
I went to quite a few suppliers and found the best selection and service from The Stone Library in North Riding as they managed to not only give me the best price but complete the full job in 10 working days from my first visit to meet my birthday deadline date in December!
As I wanted a kitchen full of light and open onto our terrace I chose to install Constantina doors and Cape style windows (supplier was Gauteng Mouldings in Kya sands)
Did you enlist the help of a builder or architect? If so, who?
I used our builder of many years to place the windows and do the plastering/paint and the tiling only and my husband installed the full kitchen himself…
Did you run into any difficulties?
Not really but I am a very hands-on owner and Project manager! But on installation we realized that we would need another corner unit which Milestone Kitchen managed to make available to us within a couple of weeks and my husband made a full day trip to collect directly from them to meet my deadline to finish the project prior to my birthday!
How long did it take?
We started with the building work late September and finished the full installation on December 10th.
What did you want to achieve from the renovation? i.e. do you entertain a lot?
We DO entertain a lot J and this project has definitely changed our way of doing it. Also this open and welcoming space has now become the place where everybody want to be, from my daughter helping with harvesting some veggies in the garden and the cooking with me in the evening or doing arts and crafts, to my husband and I when we have extra work to do in the evening on our laptops!
Did you have a strict budget?
Although not absolutely strict, our budget was indeed limited and the selection of suppliers/products balancing carefully durability of the products with the price tag. We ended up spending about 20% above budget. Total cost of the project was +/- 160k inclusive of labour and all materials (kitchen units, fittings, granite tops, windows, constantina doors, tiles, paint, etc)
Have you done something like this before?
No but it was so inspiring and exciting that I am actually considering doing this as a full time job one day in future to help people achieve their dreams without breaking the bank… I just LOVED IT!
An African Allure kitchen being loaded up, ready for the long hall to Knysna. Biddulphs makes it look so easy.
Stunning Island. Designed by Quentin Campbell from Roodepoort made by Milestone Kitchens.
We really love the clean, simple lines and colours of this Swedish Style Stove Unit with fitted hob and under counter oven. This Stove Unit also features our Spice/Oil Drawer combo which can be included in any unit and accessed from the left or right.
"Hello Silvia & Lulu,
I am so happy and proud of my Kitchen Units. They are beyond gorgeous. My hubby Stephen, is so impressed with the quality of you workmanship. I will definitely in the future order from you again!
Thank you very much Lulu and Silvia you service is excellent and rare!

We put our back into our work for clients like this. And we love it when husbands give their stamp of approval. Thank you Monica, we loved working with you too.
This is one of Monica's beautiful units.
All Milestone Kitchens are German Shorthaired Pointer approved and we have the proof.
"Thanks for all the effort from your side Lulu – you truly are great!
More beautiful sketches from clients. We can custom make anything. Send us your sketches.
Congratulations Elize Zaayman. We look forward to working with you.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This is really how our wonderful carpenter, Sizwe, keeps his workstation. How awesome?
Stunning job, Richard from Knysna. African Allure with highlights of Sky Blue. Beautiful in his beach home. Relaxing. Peaceful. Inviting. Very handy Richard is with good taste and clever with his use of colour. We LOVE it.
